Pfc Raymond Jacobs F Company 2/28 Marines, 5th Marine Division stands atop Mt Surbiachi on Iwo Jima, 23rd February 1945. He was involved in the first flag raising, photographed by Louis Lowery. 2 weeks later he was wounded by a mortar and evacuated off the island.
