The Chowchilla Kidnapping: July 15, 1976: Twenty-six schoolchildren (ages 5-14) and their bus driver were abducted near Chowchilla, California by 3 armed gunmen who held them captive in an underground, buried moving truck before they miraculously managed to dig themselves out and escape.
